explanation: basically as soon as max leaves joyce asks chloe about max and she’s too embarrassed to admit that max has basically disappeared so she lies until eventually as she’s become hopeless of max coming back she admits the truth, honestly this was kind of awful but max does come back in the end and makes up for the time they have lost
