Cards come in a variety of styles and include some dynamic elements that may vary for each user. When you view any Card across the site, you will see different versions, depending on whether you have unlocked the Card yet or not.
In the image above, you can see the standard Card, ‘#001 – Max Caulfield’ in its unlocked state, and the standard Card, ‘#002 – Chloe Price’ in its locked state. Let’s break down the elements on each.
Unlocked Cards
1) Card Number – This shows the Card’s number out of the Cards of this type. It is represented in 3 digits, starting at 001 – this allows for the addition of further Cards of this type, potentially up to 999!
2) Card Image – This is the main featured image of the Card, usually showing a Character, though other types may be added in future. All images are static at the time of writing, but animated GIF images may be used in future for ‘Motion Cards’.
3) Card Title – This is the title of the Card. Some Cards may also have a Subtitle which will be shown below the main title. The might be to highlight a collection or Set they are part of, or different Episode/costume variants.
4) Card Description – This is the description of the Card. It will usually have biographical information about the Character, but some Cards may have other information relevant to their content.
5) Card Level – This is the Card’s current Level. All Cards start at Level 1 by default, but this value is dynamic and will change per Card for each user. At the time of writing, Cards can be leveled up to a maximum of Level 5. For more information of how to Level Up Cards, see the Levelling Up Cards documentation page.
6) Card Duplicates – This number will show only on Cards that you own more than 1 of. The number simply represents how many of that Card you own.
Note: The purpose of Card Levels and Duplicates is for gaining access to certain parts of the site. Other parts of the site may be restricted by Card Level/Amount access, but for now, some Environs require certain Cards at certain levels and in certain quantities in order to unlock them. Card Themes
All Cards have a theme, represented by the color or content of the background and other elements – standard or Base Cards are themed to particular games in the franchise, based on the colors of their branding.
Season 1 Cards are based on the original Life Is Strange game and so the Base Cards have a golden hour type gradient, with a mix of warm sunset orange and dark blue haze. These colors are present on the official key art of the game featuring Max Caulfield.
Season 2 Cards are themed around the prequel, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm and so their Cards have a purple/hot pink gradient mix.
Season 3 Cards are themed around Life Is Strange 2 and so their Cards have an orange/brown gradient mix, as seen in the official key art for the game, featuring Sean and Daniel walking in the woods.
Season 4 Cards are themed around Life Is Strange: True Colors and so their Cards have a gradient of different colors as seen in the game’s branding, with the idea of different colors representing people’s emotions.
Depending on which game in the franchise they are related to, the Cards will also show different Power Orbs and will require Power Orbs of that type to Level them up.
Season 1 -> Chaos Orbs
Season 2 -> Tempest Orbs
Season 3 -> Lupine Orbs
Season 4 -> Empath Orbs
Color Variants
Even within each Season, there are 6 color variants of each Card. These include: Red Cards, Green Cards, Blue Cards, Purple Cards, Orange Cards and Black Cards.
Special Cards
Besides Base Cards and Color Variants, there are also a variety of Special Cards. At the time of writing, this includes Gold Cards, Limited Edition Cards and Superfan Exclusive Cards.
These Cards will have more unique backgrounds and may also include animated elements and hover effects. Seen below are Frosted Glass, Pride and Holographic.
Note: Some Card types may not be not available at the time of writing.
Some themes can also be stacked. For example, you could have a Black or Limited Edition Card mixed with Gold elements.
Flip & Info Buttons
On single Card pages and the Card Archive page, you will find 2 buttons below each Card: Flip and Info.
Clicking the Flip button will flip the Card to show the reverse side. Clicking it again will flip the Card back to the front side.
The Flip button will only be enabled if you have already unlocked the Card. For Cards that are locked, the Flip button is disabled and the rear of the Card will show by default.
If you click the Card Info button, an info box will pop up showing you key details about the Card. Take a look at the Card Info for the first 2 Base Cards:
