There are multiple ways to add Reading Lists. The most obvious way to add new Reading Lists is from the Reading Lists Archive page.
At the top of the page listing all the Reading Lists on the site, you’ll see an ‘Add New Reading List’ button if you’re logged in.
This will open a modal with the Add New Reading List form.
You can also add new Reading Lists from individual Chapter pages.
On each Chapter post, you’ll see a button labelled ‘Add To Reading List’ next to the ‘Edit Content’ button (though that button will only appear if you’re the author of the Chapter post).
Click the ‘Add To Reading List’ button to bring up a modal.
In the box on the left you’ll see all of your Reading List posts listed (only Reading Lists you created will be listed here). Any Reading Lists this Chapter have already been added to will be listed in the box on the right. You can select any Reading List on the left to add it to the box on the right.
To remove this Chapter from a Reading List, hover over the Reading List on the right and click the minus icon.
Note that any Private Reading Lists will also appear here if you have created any, but these will not appear in the ‘Featured In {amount} Reading Lists’ modal and are not included towards to total count.
You will also notice that you can add a New Reading List in this modal using the ‘ Add New Reading List’ button on the bottom-right. Once you fill out the form and click Submit, the new Reading List will automatically be added to the box on the right in the first modal. You can then click ‘Add/Update’ in that modal and the Chapter will be added to that new Reading List and the ‘Featured In {Amount} Reading Lists’ will be updated.
The Add New Reading List Form
Here’s a breakdown of a New Reading List form.
Reading List Name – This is the name of the Reading List.
Reading List Description – This is optional and is currently not featured anywhere on the Reading List, but may be added in future.
Featured Image – This is the Featured Image of the Reading List that will appear in listings. Click the ‘Add Image’ button to upload the image from your computer or mobile device.
Another modal will pop up, where you can either select an existing image you’ve uploaded before, or upload a new one by clicking the ‘Upload Files’ tab:
If uploading a new image file, you can either drag it into the upload box or click the ‘Select Files’ button to select the image file from your computer:
The minimum Width and Height for Reading List image files is 600px. This is because that is the cropped thumbnail size for the main listings on the site and the layout of those pages would not look optimal otherwise. The maximum file size has also been set at 3MB. This is to save on resources. We are hosting all media on Life Is Strange Fans on an Amazon S3 bucket and we’re paying a monthly charge for hosting those files as well as each time they’re requested by users visiting the site. There are lots of resources for reducing the file size of images without noticeably sacrificing quality, but we highly recommend Tiny JPG or Tiny PNG.
If you make a mistake or want to change the image assigned to this Reading List post, click the ‘X’ icon in the top-tight of the image. You can then click the ‘Add Image’ button again to add a new image.
Header Image – This is a large banner background for the Reading List.
Featured Characters – Start typing in the field to find Characters and click to add them. Select any Characters that are featured in the Reading List.
This field is used for filtering, allowing Fans to quickly find any other Reading Lists featuring these Characters.
Games – Click the selection box and then click any Game that is relevant to the Reading List to add it. You may choose more than 1 Game if the Reading List features content related to multiple games in the franchise.
Tags – Start typing in the field to find any relevant Tags and click to add them.
If you want to add any new Tags, click the ‘Add New Tag’ button and in the popup box, enter the name of the Tag and click ‘Add Tag’. The Tag will be added to this Reading List post automatically but will appear in the choices when adding any new Reading List posts in the future.
If the Tag already exists you’ll be notified. Search for that Tag in the field instead to add it to the Reading List.
Please note that in order to help Fans find the content they want, adding Tags is mandatory (denoted by the red asterisk). Consider the Characters featured in the Reading List, trigger warnings, or anything else that might be significant. Tags such as ‘Max’, ‘Romance’, ‘Favourite Fan Fic’, are all relevant, useful Tags.
Add To Reading List – This is where you can add Chapters to your new Reading List at the same time you are creating it. However, you do not actually have to select anything here when creating new Reading Lists. You can create an empty Reading List initially and then use the ‘Add To Reading List’ button on any Chapter to add that Chapter to the new Reading List, which will appear in the box on the left once you’ve created it.
Privacy – The final field is where you set whether you want the new Reading List to be Public or Private.
Just check the desired box to determine the Privacy level. Public Reading Lists can be seen and Favourited by everyone. Private Reading Lists will not appear in public listings and if you add Chapters to them, it will not be counted towards the total count on the ‘Featured In {amount} Reading Lists’ modal on any single Chapter posts.
