There are multiple ways to add Music to the website. You can either click the My Content icon in the top header bar, which has links to your main content, and then click ‘My Music’.
This will take you to your own ‘My Music’ page. Once there, you’ll see a button at the top – ‘Add New Music’. Click this to open a modal with the form to add a new Music post.
The second way is to add new Music from the main Music Archive page. This is where all the Music on the site is listed. As with the My Music page, there is a button at the top of the page which will bring up the form for adding a new Music post.
The final method is while adding or editing a Musician post. On the ‘Content’ tab on the Musician form, there are 2 selection boxes to select Music to be assigned to the Musician: one for them as the Main Musician and one for them as the Featured Musician. At the bottom-right of both boxes, there is a ‘Add New Music’ button.
This will open up a modal-within-a-modal, and when you fill in the form for the Music and submit it, that Music will automatically be added to the selected Music in the Music box for that Musician.
The Add Music Form
Now we’ll show you the ‘Add Music’ form and break down each element.
Song Title – This is the title of the Song/Music. Make sure to give it an appropriate title. If you’re uploading the Music post, but you’re not the Musician, make sure to use the same title that they did when they posted it at the original source. If they didn’t title it, choose a title that you think fits best. ‘Untitled 82737’ isn’t really a great title and giving it a suitable title will make it easier to find for Fans using the search and filter options.
Song Description – This is optional but can be helpful for users wanting to know more about the Music that might not be immediately obvious. If you’re uploading the Music, but you’re not the Musician, you should generally use the description they did at the original source. However, depending on the context, that description may not make sense while posted on this website.
Song Embed URL – This is the actual external URL for the song. Only Soundcloud or YouTube URL’s are accepted for Music posts. Make sure to post the full URL including the https:// and not just the ID. Once you’ve pasted the URL in the field, you should see a preview of the song so you can check it’s right right one. Also be sure that the URL you’re pasting doesn’t include any timestamp, e.g. /?t=117 at the end, as this will make the song start at that time instead of at the beginning. Cases in which using timestamps as part of the URL might be applicable could include videos where the song was played as part of a set featuring other bands, so you want to start the clip when they come on. But generally, it is always preferable to have links to the standalone song if available.
Song Featured Image – This is the Featured Image for the Song/Music post. To add one, click the ‘Add Image’ button.
Another modal will pop up, where you can either select an existing image you’ve uploaded before, or upload a new one by clicking the ‘Upload Files’ tab:
If uploading a new image file, you can either drag it into the upload box or click the ‘Select Files’ button to select the image file from your computer:
The Featured Image for Music posts must be in a 16:9 aspect ratio. We recommend using Get YouTube Thumbnail to get the actual thumbnail if you are using YouTube as the source URL for the Music. You can also use Croppola to crop any image of your choice, making sure to select the 16:9 option, before cropping and saving the image.
Musician – This is where you assign the Musician/s for this Music. You should always first use the search box to see if the Musician already exists on the site.
If they appear in the list in the box on the left, simply click their name to add them to the box on the right. If you want to remove a Musician from the box on the right, hover over it and click the minus icon. If the Musician doesn’t already exist on the site, then you must add them now. You can use the ‘Add New Musician’ button on the bottom-right. This will open a new modal-within-a-modal, where you can add the Musician.
After filling out the ‘Add Musician’ form and clicking Submit, that Musician will automatically be added to the box on the right and you can continue with the rest of the form.
Featured Musician Check – Some songs have a featured Musician, usually denoted by Feat. If this is the case with the Music you are adding, you should check this box. A new field will then appear below.
Featuring Musician – The is essentially the same as the Musician field, except the Feat. Musician should be added here. As with that field, simply click the Musician on the left box to add them to the box on the right, remove any added Musicians with the minus icon, or add new Musicians with the ‘Add New Musician’ button on the bottom-right.
Link To Character Page – Search for the Characters that are relevant to this Music and simply click their name to add them to the box on the right. The Character might be referenced or named in the lyrics, or the song might play during key sequences featuring that Character. We’ve already added the main characters from all Life Is Strange games as well as some side characters, but if a Character related to a Music post you want to upload is missing in this list, please contact us and let us know.
Featured Characters – Start typing in the field to find Characters and click to add them. Select any Characters that are related to the Music.
Unlike the ‘Link to Character Page’ option, this field is used for filtering, allowing Fans to quickly find any other Music featuring these Characters.
Tags – Start typing in the field to find any relevant Tags and click to add them.
If you want to add any new Tags, click the ‘Add New Tag’ button and in the popup box, enter the name of the Tag and click ‘Add Tag’. The Tag will be added to this Music post automatically but will appear in the choices when adding any new Music posts in the future.
If the Tag already exists you’ll be notified. Search for that Tag in the field instead to add it to the Music.
Please note that in order to help Fans find the content they want, adding Tags is mandatory (denoted by the red asterisk). Consider the Characters related to the Music, the genre, or anything else that is significant about the Music/Song. Tags such as ‘indie folk’, ‘acoustic’, ‘instrumental’, or ‘Max’ are all relevant, useful Tags.
Games – Click the selection box and then click any Game that is relevant to the Music to add it. You may choose more than 1 Game if appropriate (for example, it’s a song that features in more than 1 Game – the track ‘Max and Chloe’ by Jonathan Morali, for example, is heard briefly in a scene in Life Is Strange 2).
Episodes – Click the selection box and then click any Episode that is relevant to the Music to add it. You may choose more than 1 Episode if appropriate.
Tip: For all of the above fields, hold CRTL/CMD to keep the selection box open and add multiple selections quickly.
View Music On Other Sites – Every Music track has an original source. You must select at least one by checking the relevant box. For each box you check, a new field will appear where you can copy and paste the full URL that links to the Music as it appears on that network.
We’ve added the most common music sites and social networks, but if the Music you want to add appears on a source not listed here, please contact us to let us know.
Submit – Finally, once you’ve filled in all relevant fields, click the Submit button to add the Music to the site. If you’re on a Music Archive page or your ‘My Music’ page, the page will refresh and your Music will now appear in the listings.
