There are multiple ways to add Collections. The most obvious way to add new Collections is from the Collections Archive page.
At the top of the page listing all the Collections on the site, you’ll see an ‘Add New Collection’ button if you’re logged in.
This will open a modal with the Add New Collection form.
You can also add new Collections from individual posts of the main 6 content types, e.g. Fan Art, Cosplay, Fan Fiction, Music, Videos or Screenshots.
On each post of those content types, below the count of how many Collections the content is already in, if any, you’ll see two buttons: one labeled ‘Add To Collection’, and one labelled ‘Add New Collection’ which will bring up the Add New Collection form in a modal.
If you want to add any of the 6 main content types, such as a Fan Art to a Collection you can click the first button – ‘Add To Collection. This will bring up a modal.
In the box on the left you’ll see all of your Collection posts listed (only Collections you created will be listed here). Any Collections this content has already been added to will be listed in the box on the right. You can select any Collection on the left to add it to the box on the right.
To remove this content from a Collection, hover over the Collection on the right and click the minus icon.
Note that any Private Collections will also appear here if you have created any, but these will not appear in the ‘Featured In {amount} Collections’ modal and are not included towards to total count.
You will also notice that you can add a New Collection in this modal using the ‘ Add New Collection’ button on the bottom-right. Once you fill out the form and click Submit, the new Collection will automatically be added to the box on the right in the first modal. You can then click ‘Add/Update’ in that modal and the content will be added to that new Collection and the ‘Featured In {Amount} Collections’ will be updated.
The Add New Collection Form
Here’s a breakdown of a New Collection form.
Collection Name – This is the name of the Collection.
Collection Description – This is optional and is currently not featured anywhere on the Collection, but may be added in future.
Featured Image – This is the Featured Image of the Collection that will appear in listings. Click the ‘Add Image’ button to upload the image from your computer or mobile device.
Another modal will pop up, where you can either select an existing image you’ve uploaded before, or upload a new one by clicking the ‘Upload Files’ tab:
If uploading a new image file, you can either drag it into the upload box or click the ‘Select Files’ button to select the image file from your computer:
The minimum Width and Height for Collection image files is 600px. This is because that is the cropped thumbnail size for the main listings on the site and the layout of those pages would not look optimal otherwise. The maximum file size has also been set at 3MB. This is to save on resources. We are hosting all media on Life Is Strange Fans on an Amazon S3 bucket and we’re paying a monthly charge for hosting those files as well as each time they’re requested by users visiting the site. There are lots of resources for reducing the file size of images without noticeably sacrificing quality, but we highly recommend Tiny JPG or Tiny PNG.
If you make a mistake or want to change the image assigned to this Collection post, click the ‘X’ icon in the top-tight of the image. You can then click the ‘Add Image’ button again to add a new image.
Header Image – This is a large banner background for the Collection.
Featured Characters – Start typing in the field to find Characters and click to add them. Select any Characters that are featured in the Collection.
This field is used for filtering, allowing Fans to quickly find any other Collections featuring these Characters.
Tags – Start typing in the field to find any relevant Tags and click to add them.
If you want to add any new Tags, click the ‘Add New Tag’ button and in the popup box, enter the name of the Tag and click ‘Add Tag’. The Tag will be added to this Collection post automatically but will appear in the choices when adding any new Collection posts in the future.
If the Tag already exists you’ll be notified. Search for that Tag in the field instead to add it to the Collection.
Please note that in order to help Fans find the content they want, adding Tags is mandatory (denoted by the red asterisk). Consider the Characters featured in the Collection, the type of content it includes, or anything else that might be significant. Tags such as ‘Max’, ‘Cosplay’, ‘Favourite Fan Art’, are all relevant, useful Tags.
Games – Click the selection box and then click any Game that is relevant to the Collection to add it. You may choose more than 1 Game if the Collection features content from multiple games in the franchise.
Add To Collection – This is where you can add content to your new Collection at the same time you are creating it. You can use the dropdown box on the right to switch between the main content types and narrow down results. However, you do not actually have to select anything here when creating new Collections. You can create an empty Collection initially and then use the ‘Add To Collection’ button on any of the 6 main content types to add that post to the new Collection, which will appear in the box on the left once you’ve created it.
Privacy – The final field is where you set whether you want the new Collection to be Public or Private.
Just check the desired box to determine the Privacy level. Public Collections can be seen and Favourited by everyone. Private Collections will not appear in public listings and if you add content to them, it will not be counted towards the total count on the ‘Featured In {amount} Collections’ modal on each of the 6 main content types.
