Navigating The Site
You can find the most popular and frequently used sections of the site in the MAIN MENU, which can be accessed by clicking the word ‘MENU’ next to the ‘hamburger’ icon in the top right of the HEADER. The menu will slide in from the right and can be scrolled to reveal all available links.
The MAIN MENU is broken into sections, each containing links relevant to that section. Beginning at the top, when logged in, you will see your avatar/profile picture, along with your current LEVEL and progress to the next LEVEL.
Below this, you’ll see a WELCOME message and LOGOUT link. Logging out will redirect you to the HOME page, from where you can continue to browse the site. However, some features, such as Adding and Favouriting content will not be available.
Next, you’ll see the QUICK LINKS, under which we’ve listed what we believe will be some of the most frequently visited links. Note that, due to the dynamic nature of the links, the QUICK LINKS section will only be visible to logged in users. We’re working on making the actual links that appear here dynamic too, allowing users to choose their own QUICK LINKS from a pre-defined selection.
The most important of these QUICK LINKS is MY DASHBOARD, which has so much dynamic content it has its own separate menu.
HELP & INFO follows, containing links to the DOCUMENTATION (you’re already here!), BUG REPORTS and SITE CREDITS.
ACTIVITY is where you’ll be able to jump to the ACTIVITY FEED to keep up to date with the latest content added to the site, as well as unlocks and profile updates. The MEMBERS list can be found here too, so you can see all the members and whether they’re online or not.
Next is the gamification section, ACHIEVEMENTS & CARDS. This section includes links to all on-site ACHIEVEMENTS, which can be unlocked to earn FAN POINTS, as well as CARDS, CARD PACKS and CARD LISTINGS. If you’re logged in, you’ll also see links to your own pages related to these elements, such as MY ACHIEVEMENTS, MY CARDS, MY CARD PACKS and MY CARD LISTINGS.
Following this are links to the GAMES, EPISODES and CHARACTERS archive pages, from which you can filter and discover the individual pages for each game, episode, or character in the Life Is Strange franchise.
The remaining sections contain links to the archives of all the main content types, including:
- FAN ART
- FAN ARTISTS
- COSPLAY
- COSPLAYERS
- FAN FICITON
- WRITERS
- MUSIC
- MUSICIANS
- VIDEOS
- VIDEO CONTENT CREATORS
- SCREENSHOTS
- COLLECTIONS
- READING LISTS
- MUSIC PLAYLISTS
- VIDEO PLAYLISTS
Once again, if you’re logged in, you’ll see links to pages listing your own posts of those types.
In the footer of the MAIN MENU, you’ll see links to our most active social channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. These are the same social links found in the main footer of the website.
Homepage
The first thing you’ll see when visiting the website is the HOMEPAGE. This is streamlined to show an image, count and link for each of the main content types on Life Is Strange Fans. The images are shown as Polaroids, a thematic element of the first game in the series, with the image contained in a thick-bordered frame and the title of the post written underneath in a handwritten style. Due to space limitations, the title is limited to only show the first three words of the post, with a trailing ellipsis (…). Clicking anywhere on the polaroid element will take you directly to that post. The posts (and therefore images, titles, and links) for each content type are randomized on each page load, which allows you to discover new content each time you visit the site.
Underneath each polaroid you’ll see an icon and count for how many posts of that content type are currently on the website, and below this the name of the content type (e.g., FAN ART). Clicking this will take you to the archive page for that content type, that lists all posts of that type which can then be searched of filtered down further.
The Header
This top bar appears on every page of the website and is also what’s known as a ‘sticky’ header, meaning it will follow you down the page as you scroll so it always remains in view. From left-to-right, here you’ll find:
Site Logo: Besides the font used for the text, our logo has remained unchanged since we first launched back in 2016. The distinctive, slightly tilted polaroid with a blue butterfly is an easy way to identify us and our community.
Search Bar: Any words or phrases you enter here will search the entire website and return results relevant to your search. The SEARCH RESULTS page can be filtered down further to find the exact content you’re looking for.
Note: On mobile and tablet, this element is moved to the MAIN MENU.
Fan Points: Along with an ‘FP’ coin icon, this will show you your current FAN POINTS balance. To save on space, the amount here is an abbreviated version of your points, rounded up or down to the nearest figure. For example, if you currently have 50,599 Fan Points, it will display here as 50.6K Fan Points. To see an exact figure for your Fan Points, just head to MY DASHBOARD when logged in.
Note: On mobile and tablet, this element is moved to the MAIN MENU.
Cards: Next to the Cards icon, this will show you the number of CARDS you currently own. This figure includes standard Cards, Gold Cards and Rare Cards from all Seasons, but does not include any duplicates of Cards you might own. To see counts for your owned Cards including duplicates and broken down for each Card type, head to MY CARDS while logged in or click the actual Cards icon and number here in the header to go straight there.
Note: On mobile and tablet, this element is moved to the MAIN MENU.
Notifications: Next to a bell icon, you’ll see a number within an offset orange box, showing how many Unread Notifications you currently have. If you don’t have any Unread Notifications, no number will appear. If you do have some, clicking either the bell or the number will prompt a box to slide in from the right, which will show you up to 10 of your latest Unread Notifications. A button at the bottom of the Notifications box will take you to the full NOTIFICATIONS page, where you’ll be able to either mark them as Read or Delete them.
Main Menu: As described in Navigating The Website, this is where you’ll find all the main links you’ll need to get around the website. Some items will either be unique to you, or will be visible/not visible depending on whether you’re logged in or using the website on desktop, mobile or tablet. Simply click the ‘hamburger’ icon or the word ‘MENU’ to prompt the menu to slide in from the right. To close the menu, either click the X icon or click anywhere outside the menu.
The Footer
At the very bottom of every page you’ll find the website’s FOOTER. This contains icon links to our most-used social channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Simply click the icons to open those pages in a new tab. Also here is the necessary copyright information and legal disclaimers.
Dark Mode
In the bottom left of the screen, you’ll notice a toggle switch. This is the Dark Mode switcher, which allows you to instantly switch the website between a Light Mode (the default) and Dark Mode theme. As well as styling changes in terms of the color of elements such as text, links and backgrounds, when using Dark Mode, images are reduced to 90% brightness. Also, where possible, a pure white color is not used and is replaced with an off-white color instead.
Your preference between Light Mode or Dark Mode is saved in cookies, so unless you clear you cache, the site will load in whatever mode you were last using. Note that while Light Mode is generally the default theme, Dark Mode is enabled automatically at an OS level, meaning if you have a dark mode enabled on your PC, Mac or mobile operating system, the site will actually load in Dark Mode by default.
Scroll To Top Button
Once you’ve scrolled at least some way past the initially visible part of a page, a button with an UP arrow will appear in the bottom right of the screen. Clicking this will quickly scroll back up to the top of the current page. The button fades out after a few seconds once you’ve stopped scrolling, but will reappear when you start scrolling again.
